The stable isotope mass spectrometer is required for a field laboratory for measuring whole soil carbon balances and gas emissions. The primary requirement is to measure the fluxes and isotope composition of carbon dioxide, methane, nitrogen and nitrous oxide gases emitted into automatically-controlled chambers covering soil monoliths in a field system.
