Tot de scope van deze opdracht voor vervanging van het WLAN behoren de volgende onderdelen:
— het maken van het ontwerp,
— de levering van de benodigde hardware.
Buiten de scope van deze opdracht vallen de volgende onderdelen:
— de levering, aanleg en wijziging van de huidige infrastructuur (stroom- en netwerkvoorziening),
— het plaatsen van de geleverde hardware.
Het ontwerp.
Van de leverancier wordt gevraagd een volledig ontwerp te maken voor alle gebouwen van de RUG. Uit het ontwerp moet naar voren komen op welke plaatsen de hardware geplaatst moet worden zodat tegemoet gekomen wordt aan de eisen en wensen van de RUG.
Het nieuwe WLAN moet voor de komende 5 jaar in voldoende capaciteit voorzien en de mogelijkheid bieden zichzelf aan de omstandigheden aan te passen (resilience). Verder zal het WLAN ondersteuning moeten bieden aan nieuwe ontwikkelingen.
Het draadloze netwerk moet:
1) Met voldoende bandbreedte generieke dekking bieden op de locaties van de RUG.
2) Automatische configuratie van de accesspoints ondersteunen.
3) Zelfherstellend vermogen hebben.

De RUG bestaat uit ongeveer 150 gebouwen. In totaal dient het WLAN een oppervlakte van 435 000 m2 te bedekken. De architectuur van de gebouwen binnen de RUG loopt zeer uiteen. Enkele gebouwen stammen uit begin 1800, andere gebouwen zijn pas een aantal jaren oud. De leverancier dient zich er bewust van te zijn dat ieder gebouw specifieke eisen heeft ten aanzien van het WLAN.
